For parents and caregivers: how to help your child find the best apprenticeship for them
Compare apprenticeships easily and make a final decision
Your child wants to get on an apprenticeship so they can get a qualification, a wage, and workplace experience without any debt… that’s great! But how can they find apprenticeships that tick every box, compare them side by side, and decide which ones to apply to?
Our Apprenticeships tool will help them to do exactly that. They can use it to see all the apprenticeships available in the standard they’re interested in, narrow them down by what matters to them, and most importantly – create a shortlist so they can compare them easily.
Here’s how to use it with your child, in five easy steps:
1. Open the Apprenticeships tool on Unifrog, which you’ll find in the ‘Searching for opportunities’ section:
2. Choose the standard your child is interested in, and the distance in miles they’re willing to travel:
Pro tip: instead of viewing the standards alphabetically, you can rank them by things like ‘Salary’, ‘Jobs’, and ‘Vacancies’.
3. Use the rank and filter options to narrow your child’s results by things like weekly wage, the Ofsted rating, and start date:
4. Use your final shortlist to compare and decide. For each vacancy that makes it to your child’s final shortlist, they’ll see all the information they need to make a final decision:
- where they’ll be working and what they’ll be doing
- the training they’ll receive
- the career prospects for people in that role, including the number of jobs available, average salary, and employment rate
- the start date, duration, and deadline for applying
- the qualifications and skills they need to get in
- a link to the employer website and an email address if you have any questions
5. Save your shortlist and click ‘apply’ to get started:
And that’s it! We also have plenty of resources to help your child build a strong application, including:
- a guide on how to apply
- our wide range of employer profiles, which are ideal for researching the employer and seeing what they look for in applicants
- a guide on how to write a strong CV (some applications will require your child to submit one)
- our Activities and Skills tools, which will help your child to build up the evidence they need for their applications
Good luck!
